Heather Buchanan

Heather Buchanan is a publisher and film producer. She is the owner of Aquarius Press, now in its 24th year. Her flagship imprint, Willow Books, publishes many of the nation's top poets and writers of color. Buchanan has been featured in Poets & Writers Magazine for her groundbreaking work developing award-winning writers, including Derrick Harriell, Gary Copeland Lilley and national laureates devorah major (San Francisco's third Poet Laureate) and Texas Poet Laureate Lupe Mendez. Buchanan's press is recognized internationally for its development of writers and was a pioneer poetry presenter with its LitFest national broadcasts.

Buchanan is the publisher of Black Fire This Time (2022), a critically-acclaimed anthology featuring over 100 poets and writers including Louisiana State Poet Laureate Mona Lisa Saloy and New Orleans legends Kalamu ya Salaam, the late Tom Dent and poet Jerry Ward, Jr. She is the owner of Aquarius Press, of which Willow Books is its flagship imprint.
