Event Type

Since 2018, Kolaj Institute has investigated the intersection of Poetry and Collage through a series of artist residencies that resulted in the journal, PoetryXCollage. Now in its eighth volume, in the periodic journal of artwork and writing, we are interested in found poetry, blackout poetry, collage poems, haikus, centos, response collages, response poems, word scrambles, concrete poetry, scatter collage poems, and other poems and artwork that inhabit this world. In 2026, Kolaj Institute is presenting its first exhibition of artwork from the intersection of Poetry and Collage, "Fragment as Verse". In the exhibition, we consider the role fragment plays in both mediums and how artwork at the intersection operates on the gallery wall. Using the exhibition as a point of departure, participants in this workshop will dive into Kolaj Institute's material library and make collage at the intersection of Poetry and Collage. We will talk about and make black out poems, found word poems, and a collaborative scanograph poem. The workshop will be led by Kolaj Institute Director Ric Kasini Kadour.
