Not Having Feelings is Boring: Book-Length Autobiographical Poetics and the Avant-Garde

American avant-garde writing has long been hospitable to book-length poems and projects, but has had a troubled relationship with personal emotion, particularly as embodies by the dramatic I. But there has been a recent resurgence of writing, particularly in a feminist vein, exploring self-perception and personal history while using hybrid and avant-garde forms. Panelists discuss their own relationship to that "dirty word," confessionalism, while showcasing an emerging and vital poetics predicated on memoir/lyrical themes explored through sustained formal tactics associated with experimental writing.
